When One Ocean Week kicks off on April 18, the modern ro-ro ship TRANS SOL will dock in Bergen and serve as the main venue for one of the week’s largest and most innovative exhibitions.
– It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to showcase the large maritime industry here in Western Norway aboard the TRANS SOL, a state-of-the-art ro-ro ship owned by the Bergen-based shipping company SeaCargo. The ship was recently equipped with rotor sails, which dramatically reduce energy consumption. On board, visitors will see exhibitions featuring technology, shipping companies, and suppliers that together make up the maritime cluster in Western Norway. We hope many people from Bergen will come visit us during One Ocean Week, says Sigvald Sveinbjørnsson (pictured), general manager of Maritime Bergen.
One Ocean Week, taking place April 18–24, will transform Festningskaien into a vibrant maritime hub featuring exhibitions, activities, and experiences—and TRANS SOL will be a natural focal point. The ship is already being touted as one of the biggest crowd-drawing attractions during the opening weekend.

A floating technology center in the heart of Bergen
TRANS SOL is not just any ship. It is one of the coast’s greenest and most energy-efficient vessels, and during One Ocean Week it will be equipped with rotor sails and solar panels, among other things—concrete symbols of forward-looking maritime solutions. As an exhibition venue, the ship provides a truly unique setting for the maritime industry:
- large, flexible spaces for demonstrations and installations
- space for activities, models, simulators, and interactive experiences
- capacity for large and small exhibitions from across the value chain
The goal is clear: to show the public why the maritime industry is one of Norway’s most important industries for the future—in terms of value creation, technological development, and the green transition.
Part of Maritime Saturday and Family Day – and a separate recruitment day
TRANS SOL will be open throughout the opening weekend. On Maritime Saturday, April 18, Festningskaien will be transformed into a festival area featuring ships, technology, research, and public activities. TRANS SOL will open its cargo holds and car deck to the public. Sunday, April 19, is Family Day. Then, young and old alike can explore maritime installations, try out activities on board, and learn more about the ocean . Monday, April 20, focuses on recruitment. The event “A Sea of Opportunities” is designed for students from middle and high schools. The dayaims to inspire and guide future generations into the exciting—and not least important—world of maritime industries. Come along and see where the sea can take you. The exhibition aboard the TRANS SOL continues, now with a clear focus on career opportunities in the maritime sector.
Why TRANS SOL?
TRANS SOL has been chosen as the exhibition platform precisely because the vessel embodies everything that One Ocean Week aims to highlight:
- sustainable maritime technology (rotor sails, energy-efficient solutions)
- innovation and forward-looking maritime industries
- the entire spectrum of the maritime value chain—from design and equipment to shipping and digitalization
The ship will therefore serve as a symbol of Norway’s role as a maritime power—and of the opportunities presented by the green transition.
Open to everyone and arare opportunity
One Ocean Week hopes that as many people as possible will come aboard, whether you’re a maritime professional, a student, a researcher, a child, a family member, or simply curious about the ocean and Norway’s most important industries of the future.
