Mette Skern-Mauritzen will be one of twelve lead authors from Norwegian institutions on the next main report from the IPCC.

Out of as many as 8,771 nominated climate experts, 664 were selected from 111 countries. Skern-Mauritzen was also the lead author of the previous report, published in 2022.

This time, she will be working in the group focusing on climate effects, climate adaptation and climate vulnerability, and is particularly involved in the chapter on Europe.

The Institute of Marine Research's social mission

She emphasizes that participation in international research collaboration is an important part of the IMR's social mission. – This time I think the work will be extra important. Because of Trump's attacks on climate research, we don't know how many American researchers will be able to participate. Then it is all the more important that the rest of us step up, says the head of research.

Director of the Institute of Marine Research, Nils Gunnar Kvamstø, believes the appointment is both an honor and a recognition:– First and foremost for Skern-Mauritzen, but this is also a major vote of confidence in the IMR as an institution. It shows the value of having researchers who are not only good in one field, but who are at the forefront of research in a wide range, as Skern-Mauritzen is, says Kvamstø.

He describes the report as a new generation of climate reports, with greater emphasis on consequences rather than just climate scenarios.

The report will be published in several parts, starting in 2028
