Ocean Week has come to an end for now. A big thank you to everyone who joined us in Bergen this week to discuss the future of the ocean.
One Ocean Week took place in Bergen from April 18 to 24, 2026, and brought together participants from around the world. Over the course of seven days, visitors flocked to Bergen to take part in a record number of events.
– “We are proud that so many organizers and visitors—both local and from out of town—helped make this a fantastic week. Thank you for your participation in the events, professional discussions, and political meetings, and not least for helping to strengthen the effort to ensure a healthy and sustainable ocean,” says Jon Askeland, Chair of One Ocean, Bergen, Norway.
A clear message throughout the week was the need for greater diversity in ocean policy. Several events addressed how different knowledge systems—such as indigenous knowledge, local experience, and perspectives from the Global South—must be given a more prominent role in decisions concerning the ocean. The youth panel highlighted demands for genuine participation and greater accountability from destructive industries.
One Ocean Week 2026 clearly demonstrated that there is strong commitment to the ocean, and that collaboration across generations, sectors, and national borders is essential for success.
