Now you can check how many nutrients you get from seafood using a brand-new calculator.
Seafood Data has been given a brand-new look and new features.
Under the hood, the database is still built on a vast trove of data—collected, processed, and analyzed over decades of surveys, missions, and research.
But the packaging is brand-new, and the possibilities are even greater than before.
“We’re very happy to have created a product we’re proud of, and one that we believe many people will find both useful and enjoyable,” says project manager Rita Hannisdal.

Director of Marine Research: “I see HI as a key contributor”
Nils Gunnar Kvamstø, Director of Marine Research, is pleased that HI can offer the world even better services, based on thorough and comprehensive research.
– Seafood data highlights HI’s role as a key contributor to the Norwegian seafood industry, which is a billion-dollar industry. This analytical data helps, among other things, enable Norway to export seafood, says Kvamstø.
The fact that the database has now become more user-friendly for most people is also a milestone.
– At a time when diet and what we actually consume at dinner are becoming increasingly important issues, Sjømatdata highlights the daily work HI does to ensure safe and healthy seafood.
Here's a quick preview of everything you can explore in Sjømatdata.
"No one" else has this
Seafood Data lets you take a real deep dive into what’s in the seafood we eat—from fatty acids and vitamins to heavy metals and dioxins.
The database contains over 1 million analysis results for nutrients and undesirable substances from more than 60,000 seafood samples—from 2006 to the present.
“Seafood data is unique—not only in a Norwegian context, but also internationally. There is hardly any comparable database in the world that contains data on both nutrients and undesirable substances in seafood spanning more than 20 years,” says Hannisdal.
Users can explore individual species or specific seafood products and compare the nutrient content across different species and marine regions. The updated version also includes a map feature and a nutrient calculator.
