After a 12-month expedition, Statsraad Lehmkuhl returns to Bergen as a floating ambassador for United Nations Ocean Decade. The homecoming marks the end of a unique journey for the ocean – and the start of One Ocean Week 2026.

One Ocean Expedition has combined sailing training, marine research, education, and diplomacy—all with one goal: to inspire action for a sustainable ocean. During its journey, the expedition has visited 26 ports on three continents.

A dignified welcome

We hope that as many people as possible will mark the date in their calendars and give Bergen's pride and joy a fitting welcome after a demanding 12-month expedition in the service of the sea. We fondly remember the atmosphere on May 17 when the ship arrived from its first expedition in 2023, and hope to experience the same on April 18 this year. We will do our part to make it a wonderful experience, says Director Haakon Steinar Vatle.

Vatle says that the commander has confirmed a salute at the Fortress when passing by there.

Take part in a magnificent boat parade on April 18

All boat owners are invited to participate in a grand boat parade to welcome the Statsraad Lehmkuhl home.

"After a year out on the world's oceans, our beloved Statsraad Lehmkuhl is returning home for the start of One Ocean Week. I hope that as many people as possible will join the boat parade into Vågen to welcome our proud ship home," says Bergen Mayor Marit Warncke (pictured right).

The convoy is led by KNM Hitra, and Bergen Fire Department will of course be participating with "Sjøbrand." If you would like to join the final stage of the One Ocean Expedition, you are most welcome.

The motorcade will start at Askøy Bridge at 10:45 a.m. and follow the ship into the city. The ship is expected to be visible in Vågen at around 11:30 a.m. and moored at 12:00 p.m.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl will proceed alone the final stretch into Vågen, and we strongly request that all others wait outside Vågen until the guard boat signals that it is safe for recreational boats and other boat traffic to proceed into the rest of Vågen.

The public event at Bryggen starts at 11:00 a.m.

We encourage everyone to set aside time during Easter to clean their boats and join us in celebrating when Statsraad Lehmkuhl returns home on Saturday, April 18.
