For the second time, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl has served as a floating ambassador for the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Sailing across the oceans and calling at ports, it inspires and supports global marine science efforts aimed at a sustainable ocean. One Ocean Expedition 2 is unique in that it combines a 112-year-old tall ship with state-of-the-art marine science equipment.
After a year at sea, from April 2025 to April 2026, the Statsraad Lehmkuhl is returning not only with a cargo of rum and whiskey but, more importantly, with samples collected from the sea, as well as gigabytes of meteorological and oceanographic data and observations.
It will provide the scientific community with a new dataset on environmental DNA, microplastic concentrations, the physical and chemical properties of the ocean, noise pollution, and much more.
Finally, its circumnavigation of the Northern Hemisphere has brought together scientists from over 15 institutions worldwide, trained more than 150 students from 46 countries across 5 continents, and engaged the public in marine science.
Here you will get an update and exciting insights from the voyage by Lucie Cassarino and Natacha Fabregas, and more.
