Andri Svær Magnason is a renowned Icelandic author and writer whose work spans everything from poetry and children’s books to documentary films and climate activism. He has collaborated with numerous prominent figures in music, art, architecture, science, and activism, and his work often focuses on climate change and environmental destruction. He has participated in numerous major conferences, film festivals, and TED Talks around the world, and gives lectures to audiences ranging from preschoolers to key political figures. Magnason communicates science in a human and personal context, and his ability to make complex topics relatable often evokes strong emotions in his audience.
The bestseller *On Time and Water* has been translated into more than 30 languages and was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2021. The book has since been presented in a multimedia format featuring photographs, archival footage, and live music.
For more than three decades, Jo Ruxton MBE has been actively working to protect our oceans. She founded Ocean Generation, a nonprofit organization that makes the ocean accessible to everyone by translating advanced science into engaging content and practical action. Ruxton is an engaging and entertaining communicator who inspires her audience to take action themselves.
After many years as a producer and director of BBC productions such as *Blue Planet*, Ruxton decided to tell the true story of the ocean and began working independently on the documentary *A Plastic Ocean*. The critically acclaimed film was released on Netflix in 2017 and has been shown in over 70 countries.
As part of One Ocean Week, you can enjoy a performance by Andri Snær Magnason and the Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, who will set the tone for the evening, followed by an inspiring talk by Jo Ruxton MBE. Welcome to a poetic, inspiring, and hopeful talk, accompanied by the BFUng string quartet.
