A multidisciplinary group of stakeholders with a longstanding active interest in the health of the city’s local lake, Store Lungegårdsvann, is collaborating to meet future demands for marine knowledge and public engagement.

DUGNAD SLV is the result of decades of focus on the health of the city’s local “sea.” The Cleaner Harbor project, led by The City of Bergen, is in full swing, coordinating efforts to rehabilitate this area. The focus has come from, among others, the University of Bergen, which used Store Lungegårdsvann and Puddefjord as a case study for new master’s students at the Department of Biosciences and now at the Center for the Philosophy of Science’s Master’s in Sustainability. In parallel with this, Amalie Skram High School is responsible for a buoy that measures water quality throughout the SLV water column twice a day with open data access. Additionally, there is a small startup company, Forhav AS, which focuses ondata-driven marine restoration projects, to name just a few.

Yet few people know what’s happening beneath the surface of Store Lungegårdsvann. That’s why it’s great to have the film crew from DokuBergen and the Faculty of Art, Music, and Design on board to help communicate our message on multiple fronts. Join us, stay informed, and help build a better future for Bergen’s ocean and its people. Together, we’ll make it happen.
