Inspired by the concept “The Coast—From Playground to Boss Spot,” artists Elizabeth Roberts (USA), Jan Willy Folgerø-Holm, Martha Christensen, and Janne Robberstad, in collaboration with Bømlo Kunstlag’s hardworking art collective, have created a nearly 3-meter-long blue steel sculpture, nicknamed Blue-Boss-Bob! He is made from ocean plastic collected along the beaches of Bømlo, mounted on a steel skeleton. Even though he is made from trash, he is both beautiful and lifelike, and fascinates both adults and children. Kids get excited when they recognize beach toys, toothbrushes, and bottle caps on the fish; the adults tend to get a little pensive. The fish is designed to spark discussion and raise awareness about littering in general, and ocean plastic in particular. It serves as an excellent and inspiring gateway to learning about ocean health, marine life, and what we can do to prevent ocean pollution.
