Bye Bye Bryggen is an interactive soundwalk that brings climate research to life. With Bergen’s iconic Bryggen as the backdrop, we invite you to explore how climate change may transform the city.

The year is 2072, and the worst storm in 200 years is about to hit the west coast of Norway. In Bergen, a family’s future is changed forever the moment the storm sirens sound. As the storm rages, the family rushes to save their family shop on Bryggen. What happens next is the result of many decades of decisions: did we work together, or did the lines of conflict grow even deeper? It’s up to you to decide.

Climate change forces us, as a society, to make many difficult choices, and through storytelling, we can make these dilemmas visible. What is worth protecting – and at what cost? What consequences will today’s decisions have for people and the environment in the future?

With Bryggen as a backdrop, Bye Bye Bryggen brings climate research to life through a story where the listener influences how events unfold. What choices will you make? What is worth protecting, and who pays the price?

This event is in two parts. You can choose to join either the session 12.00 – 14.00 or 15.30 – 17.30.

Part 1: Take the soundwalk Bye Bye Bryggen.

For the soundwalk, you will need:

  • A mobile phone with enough battery (the soundwalk takes around 50 minutes)
  • Headphones (we have a limited number available to loan)
  • Comfortable shoes

The meeting point is at the Fish Market – look for the yellow “sydvester” (rain hats) by the benches near the tourist information. The soundwalk concludes on Bryggen. Wait at the end of the soundwalk for part 2.

Part 2: Reflective workshop

Join us in Finnegårdstuene directly after the soundwalk for a reflective workshop on the themes of Bye Bye Bryggen.

Tea, coffee and refreshments are provided at the workshop.

Please note that there are limited spaces at the workshop. The soundwalk is available in both Norwegian and English.
