How do we tackle marine plastic today and in the future? Join a professional pre-party (faglig vorspiel) on solutions, responsibility, and new systems to reduce plastic from fisheries and aquaculture.

It has been a while since marine plastic dominated headlines in Norway and globally. The issue is still very much alive, particularly within research, governance, and industry.

On Wednesday, April 22, we welcome you to a professional pre-party (faglig vorspiel) at Nøstegaten with a positive outlook.

We will highlight strong examples of how efforts are being made to reduce plastic pollution from aquaculture and fisheries. An updated panel will discuss how we can clean up past impacts and make smart use of new schemes and regulations.

• The innovation cluster Clean Oceans will provide insights into projects related to fishing gear and circularity.
• The knowledge company SALT will present reception solutions for collected marine waste in Norwegian ports.
• The producer responsibility organization NORSIRK will explain how they are working to establish systems that meet the requirements for extended producer responsibility for plastic equipment from fisheries, recreational fishing, and aquaculture, with the goal of preventing and reducing littering, the spread of microplastics, and contributing to a circular economy.

We will conclude with a panel discussion on the opportunities that arise from new establishments and systems under extended producer responsibility, and how these can help us manage lost or discarded waste and gear. The audience is welcome to ask questions.
